About Me
Barbara Hershey-Handler

I saved fabric in a box, then up to five boxes, for all the years my kids were growing up. Len, my husband, would ask, "Why are you saving all that fabric?"  I would answer that I was going to make quilts someday - the children were 26 and 30 before someday arrived!  When it did, I was able to use material from maternity dresses, their childhood clothes, room furnishings, etc.  I always preferred cotton, so the type of fabric was right!

Life continued and I made some quilts, filed some UFO's, tucked away some mistakes...and bought more fabric.  Then Jodi Barrows came to town and I took my first Square in a Square class.  I was hooked!  Jodi started a certification program in August 2001 and I went to Texas (yep, Texas in August...that's dedication!) and sewed and cut and learned and passed an exam and became one of the first certified SnS teachers.

I have made over one hundred quilts since then...all of them finished...label and all!!  The method is so fast and accurate, it encourages you to finish and start the next one!  Take a look at some of the quilts I have made.  I am very proud of them and the SnS method.

Fallling in Love with Curves PatternBesides loving to quilt, I am hooked on machine embroidery.  So, it was a natural thing to combine the two art forms.  I always put a great label on my quilts, otherwise they are "nekked"  but I wanted to do more embroidery.  Look at the pictures in the quilt slide show to see more examples from the Square in a Square books; Stars, Stripes, and Stitches, and Patchwork and Stitches - as well as some of my own.Square in a Square Book 1 (Starter book)

I am now a Certified with Jenny Haskins as a Creative Curves Instructor. This wonderful method was developed by Virginia Walton.

As a result of all my years of teaching, I know how to teach quilters the different options that allow them to create quilts in a new and exciting way. The focus is on the method and the options that will help you create wonderful quilts .

It would be a pleasure to share this method with you.  I do workshops and trunk shows around the country. Contact me if you are interested in learning these great methods of quilting
